There’s a lot of misleading information out there when it comes to dieting and fat loss.
Firstly, the terms weight loss and fat loss should not be interchangeable. You can lose fat and yet may not see a change in your weight due to a number of reasons including increased muscle mass, water retention or maybe you just haven’t gone to the bathroom.

So let’s break down fat loss and keep it super simple.
In order to lose fat you need to be in a caloric deficit.

Maintenance calories is how many calories we require on a daily basis to maintain our current weight.

A Calorie deficit is intaking less than our daily maintenance calories (staying beneath maintenance).

You can achieve a caloric deficit by either increasing your energy expenditure through exercise and increased daily activity or by decreasing your energy input i.e. through food and drink consumption.

A caloric deficit should not be heavily restrictive as you want your fat loss results to be controlled and sustainable. Hitting your fat loss goal should not create an unsustainable training regime. A good training program teaches you how to create a sustainable, active and healthy lifestyle.
